ABOUT THE INSTITUTE
Medical Sciences and Research Centre (KIMS&RC)
Nursing runs on people who can hold steady under pressure and still get the small things right, hygiene, dosage, documentation, patient communication, every single shift. Karpaga Vinayaga College of Nursing has been training exactly those people since 2010, on a campus built on GST Road, Chinna Kolambakkam, in Madhuranthagam Taluk, Chengalpattu district.
The college is affiliated to The Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University and recognized by the Indian Nursing Council, with accreditation from NAAC. That recognition isn’t a formality here. It shapes how the college is run: clinical postings that put students in real hospital settings early, laboratories built for practicing procedures before ever touching a patient, and faculty who train students for the work itself, not just the exam at the end of the semester.
Students can enter through three different paths depending on where they’re starting from. The B.Sc. Nursing programme runs four years for students coming straight from Class 12 with Biology, Physics, and Chemistry. The Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing programme gives registered nurses holding a GNM diploma a two-year route to a full nursing degree without starting over. And for nurses who want to specialize further, the college offers M.Sc. Nursing across five distinct areas: Medical-Surgical Nursing, Child Health Nursing, Obstetrics and Gynaecological Nursing, Community Health Nursing, and Mental Health Nursing, each running two years with a small, focused intake of five students per specialization.
That small postgraduate intake isn’t a limitation. It means M.Sc. students get direct faculty attention in their chosen specialization instead of being one of a hundred in a lecture hall, exactly the kind of mentorship nursing education is supposed to include but often skips as programmes scale up.
The campus itself is built for the practical side of nursing training as much as the academic side. Laboratories, a library, computer facilities, a cafeteria, hostel accommodation, sports facilities, and an auditorium sit alongside the clinical training infrastructure students need to move confidently from classroom to ward.
Graduates leave with more than a degree. They leave having already worked inside real clinical environments, in medical-surgical wards, obstetric units, paediatric care, community health settings, and psychiatric care, depending on their specialization, which is exactly what hospitals are looking for when they hire.

Nursing education is structured specifically to build that resilience gradually, moving students from classroom fundamentals into supervised clinical postings before they’re ever expected to handle a ward independently. The profession rewards that commitment with steady demand, clear specialization paths, and work that visibly matters every single day.
Firstly, your subject combination matters. If you’re taking Biology, Physics, and Chemistry, you’re set up correctly for nursing admissions. If you haven’t finalized your subjects yet, make sure Biology is in there, it’s a non-negotiable requirement. Once you complete Class 12, the standard route is a B.Sc. Nursing degree, a four-year full-time programme. Admission is usually based on your Class 12 marks, sometimes combined with a state or university-level entrance exam, so keep your board exam performance strong through this year.
