Dr. Mary Mathew brings to KVELL nearly three decades of leadership in higher education, medical sciences, research, and academic institution building. An internationally recognized academic, clinician, researcher, and medical educator, her work has advanced the fields of pathology, medical education, bioethics, and the ethical application of Artificial Intelligence in healthcare. Her appointment reflects KVELL’s commitment to academic excellence, interdisciplinary learning, impactful research, and global engagement.

Dr. Mathew has authored and co-authored more than 250 peer-reviewed publications, books, and scholarly works spanning pathology, medical education, bioethics, healthcare ethics, and emerging technologies in medicine. Her research has been published in internationally respected journals including Medical Education Online, Clinical Infectious Diseases, Theranostics, American Journal of Medical Genetics,  Asian Journal of Psychiatry, and  BMC Pregnancy and Childbirth . She has led and contributed to nationally and internationally funded research supported by organizations including the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, while mentoring generations of postgraduate students, doctoral scholars, and early-career researchers.

Her academic leadership extends beyond research and teaching into shaping policy, professional education, and institutional development. Dr. Mathew serves as Secretary General of the Association of Medical Educators of India (AMEI), holds international leadership roles within the UNESCO Chair in Bioethics network, is a FAIMER Fellow and faculty mentor, and contributes to the editorial and peer-review boards of leading international journals. Her contributions to medical education and bioethics have been recognized through numerous national and international honors, including the UNESCO Chair in Bioethics Award for Distinguished Leadership in Bioethics Education.

As Vice Chancellor, Dr. Mathew is leading KVELL’s next phase of growth as a multidisciplinary university where education, research, healthcare, technology, and societal engagement work together to address contemporary challenges. Her focus is on strengthening academic quality, expanding interdisciplinary research, fostering global partnerships, nurturing faculty and student excellence, and building an institution that contributes meaningfully to knowledge, innovation, and society.
